Since 13 December 2009, the Swiss Railway is running according to schedule 2010. The timetable was planned with software by Netcetera. With it, SBB plans all journeys of freight and passenger trains. The internationally awarded Swiss software passed the first endurance test well on the day of the timetable change: A derailment at Zürich's main station necessitated the re-scheduling of more than 1,000 trains. The exemplary and close cooperation between customer and the project partners Netcetera, Ergon and NOSE was essential for the successful start of the new planning software.

Once again, Netcetera developed a successful iPhone App. The free application for Bilanz, one of the leading Swiss business magazines, has been downloaded more than 10,000 times since its launch in December 2009. It is called "Die 300 Reichsten" (the 300 wealthiest) and enables the mobile access to Bilanz' popular special print edition on the 300 wealthiest people in Switzerland. Background stories, analyses and news about the richest people in the country complement the offer.

Netcetera analyzed the effect of fringe benefits on employees in a survey. These fringe benefits significantly contribute to employee satisfaction and to the working atmosphere. They also support the recruiting of new employees. Further, the survey shows the effect of benefits can still be optimized and the communication of the benefits to the employees could be improved.

Thomas Zurbuchen, Professor and Associate Dean for Entrepreneurial Programs at the University of Michigan, USA, has joined Netcetera as a Researcher in Residence during his sabbatical. Till summer 2010, Zurbuchen is supporting Netcetera in empowering the company's innovation pipeline by researching innovative ideas, novel products and to develop plans for bringing them to life. Thomas Zurbuchen is a PhD in astrophysics from the University of Bern. For over 14 years, he built a successful research group at the University of Michigan, a public US university with a billion-dollar research program. He is the founding director of the University’s Center for Entrepreneurship, which has attracted US-wide visibility through its size and broad impacts. In his function as Associate Dean, Thomas Zurbuchen now develops, leads and coordinates programs focused on innovation, entrepreneurship and technology transfer at the University's College of Engineering.

For city dwellers as well as tourists and visitors of Zürich. Netcetera developed the iPhone application “Züri schlaflos“. It can be downloaded for free in the iTunes App Store .

Netcetera built the online shop for Erdgas Zürich and integrated it into their existing web presence. Erdgas Zürich is Switzerland's largest natural gas provider, investing heavily in renewable energies. Its customers can now order their wood pellets comfortably around the clock. Netcetera built and integrated the online shop into Erdgas Zürich's existing web presence in view of future expansion. It is also hosted by Netcetera.

The Open Source Awards encourage the use of open source software in Switzerland and aim to raise the public awareness of open source projects. Netcetera sponsored the "Education" category and awarded the representatives of the University of Zurich , Renata Sevcikova and Immo Wille, with the well-deserved prize at the OpenExpo in Winterthur. Their winning project "eLesson Markup Language" is XML based and used to generate structured e-learning content.
Netcetera regularly encourages the youth with projects, student internships, apprenticeships, the yearly Kids Day, the Cultura Support Program and many more.

Netcetera developed the digital health dossier "Evita" for the market entry. It enables doctors to access a patient's most important personal health data anywhere and anytime. Evita will be launched in autumn and is a joint project by Swisscom, the University of Bern, the Medical Society of the Canton Luzern, the doctors' cash collection agency, medkey, Arpage, curabill and Netcetera. Together, the partners guarantee Evita's medical quality and the exceptional data security.

Sanagate is a new health insurance in Switzerland, advocating low rates by innovative offers. Innovative too is Sanagate's centralized usage of the internet for product distribution and information. Netcetera helped to develop the back-end systems for their web presence. They integrate the business processes directly into Sanagate's website, thus their customers profit from a lean cost structure.

Netcetera and SIX Card Solutions (former Telekurs Card Solutions) developed a new payment transaction system. Daily, it successfully handles more than a million payments in Switzerland; payments, that are made with credit, debit or prepaid cards. A mixed team of Netcetera's and SIX Card Solutions' engineers invested around 50 man-years for the software.

Avaloq, the Swiss market leader for standardized banking software certified the e-services for Avaloq from finance service provider COMIT. COMIT developed the e-services in collaboration with Netcetera. They cover traditional e-banking, the more complex requirements of private banking, as well as all aspects of external asset management.

Netcetera is on the go in Macedonia too and won “The Month of Sport“. Overall, 400 employees of 24 companies competed at table tennis, basketball, volleyball, tennis and billiard. Netcetera's employees reached first to third places in various sports and Netcetera was awarded as overall champion on 5 July.

In a joint Swiss‐Belgian effort, a combined scientific and industrial consortium is building a new class of an airborne imaging spectrometer for environmental monitoring: the Airborne Prism Experiment Airborne imaging spectrometers measure and map the Earth surface in many, contiguous spectral bands, allowing to retrieve relevant spatial information on the state of the environment. Netcetera delivers the necessary hardware and software to collect and safe the scientific data as well as to coordinate the operating information on the airplane.

The third Jazoon09 conference has ended very successfully with a record number of 1080 participants. „Netcetera is one of Jazoon’s initiators. We wanted to strengthen Switzerland internationally as an attractive center for software development with the focus on professional education – and we made the breakthrough.” says Vckovski, Netcetera’s CEO. At Netcetera's programming contest "CodeFu" for software engineers Igor Kulev, Bojana Popovska and Vasja Pavlov won the contest and solved the problems with the shortest codes.

Netcetera launched its new iPhone application "Wemlin". The software works for all means of public transport in and around Zürich, and also includes night lines and the bus network of the city of Schaffhausen. The application can be downloaded in the iTunes Store for free. Wemlin enables iPhone users to travel without haste and quickly display upcoming departures of any nearby stops within the Zurich Transport Network (Zürcher Verkehrsverbund) . Wemlin was formerly known as "Tramdroid", Netcetera's first and very popular mobile application for the public transport in the city of Zurich.

2009-05-26: Netcetera actively supports the Swiss campaign “bike to work”. During June, five Netcetera teams ride the bike in favor of the environment and to promote their health. Bike to work clearly is inspiring: some Netcetera employees regularly bike to work since last year’s campaign.

The Swiss Baloise Insurance Company counts on Netcetera's software to manage their training courses entirely online. On the intranet, teachers can easily set up hundreds of training courses and manage the participants' registrations, training centers, needed infrastructure, catering and hotels. The planners of the trainings now have more time for the content of the courses without compromizing on their organizational quality.

Netcetera supports the Swiss aerialist Renato Ulrich with the development and maintenance of his website. The top athlete now uses the built-in content managment system with ease to document his preparations for the Olympics 2010 in Vancouver, Canada. The Netcetera partner mitLinks created the attractive design. Renato Ulrich is one of the best Swiss aerialists and already celebrated successes, e.g. the 4th place at the FIS Freestyle World Championship 2009 in Inawashiro, Japan.

The Best of Swiss Web Association awarded two solutions by Netcetera and its subsidiary Metaversum. In total, 45 projects received seals of approval in different categories at the award night on 2 April in Zürich. Netcetera’s projects dominated the category Usability. Tramdroid, the timetabling application for the iPhone, got silver. Bronze went to the Canton of Zug's website. Netcetera's subsidiary Metaversum was part of the website's development team.

Swiss IT service provider Netcetera has been commissioned by the European Space Agency (ESA) to be the prime contractor for the development of the multi-site web platform "Earth Observation Data and Information Services" (EO DISP). The contract was awarded to Netcetera following a European call for tenders. Netcetera is the first Swiss software company to be appointed prime contractor by the European Space Agency. The project will be implemented from 2009 to 2011.

With the timetabling software for the Swiss Federal Railways, Netcetera is a finalist at the Eclipse Community Award celebration in Santa Clara, USA. The American Eclipse Foundation shortlisted Netcetera in the category "Best Commercial Rich Client Platform (RCP) Application". Swiss Railways' timetabling software is currently one of the biggest Eclipse RCP projects in Switzerland. "We can all be very proud to be a finalist for the Eclipse Community Award. This nomination proves that we are able to solve even the most complex problems with state-of-the-art technology. With the train timetabling software we stood up to globally renowned companies. Does the new generation of smartphones cover all wishes of today's mobile society? The all-rounders spread rapidly and offer applications, organizing and enriching our everyday lives. The possibility of always being online everywhere, accessing all data, and even playing games does change the market as well as the users' behavior. At Netcetera’s first TekZone Forum at the end of February 2009, experts discussed the status of development. The "Neue Zürcher Zeitung", one of Switzerland's leading publishing houses, has expanded the cooperation with Netcetera to continuously enhance their online platform "NZZ Online". The finance portal was redesigned technologically and numerous new services were added. The financial market advertising platform is one of the first approved by Switzerland's Financial Market Authority (FINMA) to publish legally mandatory financial notifications. Additionally, Netcetera implemented an online magazine on interior design and a real estate market place as well as built in videos in NZZ's content management system.

Netcetera developed a dynamic passenger information system for Liechtenstein’s bus operator. The up-to-date departure times for all stops of the public bus network are immediately available online. The service is designed for displays in the public, in companies or retail stores and helps the passengers to get well-timed onto the bus. The timetables can also be accessed by web-enabled mobile phones or easily be integrated into a company website with just a few mouse clicks. „Public transport companies benefit from our tremendous knowhow in developing complex software solutions” commented Netcetera’s CEO Andrej Vckovski, on the successful launch of the online bus timetable in Liechtenstein.

The winners of the “Robot Team Challenge” redeemed their prize and visited the German Aerospace Center. The robotics laboratory was the day’s highlight for the students from Sargans, Switzerland. They controlled robot arms and were visibly impressed by the machines’ abilities. In 2008 the students experienced hands-on the difficulties of programming a robot, when Netcetera and AdNovum organized the Robot Team Challenge. This robotic contest during Switzerland's year of IT aimed at bringing Swiss grammar school students closer to informatics. The Robot Team Challenge winners proved to be truly talented, one of the schoolteam, Daniel Graf, also won the first round of this year’s Swiss IT Olympics.

With Tramdroid Netcetera has launched its first mobile application for the iPhone. Tramdroid enables iPhone users to quickly find updated tram and bus timetables for the city of Zürich. After only a few days in the iTunes AppStore, Tramdroid receives very positive user reviews and made it to the top 10 in Switzerland.

On 1 October 2008 Benno Häfliger (49) was appointed Managing Director for Metaversum, a Netcetera company. Metaversum is focusing on state-of-the-art consulting & solutions for sales and marketing management. With their canteen robot a grammar school team from Sargans won the «Robot Team Challenge». Netcetera and AdNovum jointly initiated this contest in Switzerland's year of information technology, called informatica08. The happy winners and all other contributions exceeded all expectations. At Netcetera we are very proud and happy to have raised awareness for the importance of IT education in Swiss grammar schools with this hands-on project.

Early this year, Netcetera invited Swiss grammar school teams to hand in their projects for a Robot Team Challenge. On the day of Information Technology, 29 August 2008, 26 teams are presenting their robots to the jury and the public on Zürich's Turbinenplatz between 8:30 and 17:20 hrs. The robots are showing their capabilities and for sure will cause suprise. At Netcetera we are happy that contributions for the Robot Team Challenge exceeded all expectations.

The Netcetera Group has added one professional to the team: Lamin Barrow passed the tests for his apprenticeship as a chef with flying colors. He works at Netcetera's staff restaurant, the historical Café Boy, operated by Netcetera Gastro. Yesterday, the employees were celebrating Lamin’s successful graduation at Netcetera’s headquarters in Zürich.

mitLinks and Netcetera developed the new website of the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV) and implemented its technological redesign. The new system architecture allows a gradual integration of different existing as well as future applications. The programming contest Code Fu, initiated by Netcetera in Macedonia, has ended. Pance Cavkovski won with his solution to five algorithmic problems that passed the most unit tests. Nikola Postolov and Ivan Milanov occupy the second and third place. All of them attend the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University in Skopje. Between 13 April and 8 June 2008, the 500 participants had to overcome four rounds; the warm-up round was followed by two online rounds and ultimately, the remaining 32 participants competed in the finale. Six Netcetera speakers are coming up with exciting technical sessions and talks at Jazoon: Stefan Rufer is presenting how a continuous database build reduces dependency . Patrik Auf der Mauer and Jürg Straub are delivering insights into Swiss Railway’s track management system and into managing such a huge project. Stefan Tramm, our unix/shell enthusiast is showing the advantages of Unix command line tools for Java development . In two additional technical short talks Jason Brazile / Stefan Tramm are demonstrating Sun’s dynamic tracing tool Dtrace , while Nicolas Schmidt is presenting the integration of Google Map’s API into a web portal .

The mission of the Swiss Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP) is the promotion of the Eclipse RCP framework for custom applications. Their goal is to provide an environment that enables the exchange of information and experiences, for example with the Eclipse Verticals presentation. The Zurich-based software companies Netcetera and AdNovum invited interdisciplinary grammar school teams to hand in their projects for the «Robot Team Challenge». This challenge was launched in context of the year of information technologies in Switzerland – informatica08. The initiators of the challenge expected a maximum of 15 applications that would fulfill the quality requirements for soft and hard skills as well as originality. However, after the application deadline at the end of April, twice as many projects were presented and all of them were accepted. The school teams located all over Switzerland, for example in Basel, Bern, Zurich, central Switzerland and Grisons, are receiving an introduction by the software engineers from both companies in the course of the next few days. Today's dynamic competition needs fast and well-founded decisions. As IT is increasingly used in business, the volume of data and information is growing immensely and their analysis is getting more and more difficult.
